Kirkus points out the "familiar easy-to-decode and sight words," and I concur that it's a "notch better" than many beginning readers. Good for less-confident beginning readers or as a shared read. Chicken is delightfully insolent as she scratches the dirt and refuses to give up, as the text and illustrations both capture. ![]() The text is large and interspersed with many half-page illustrations and several double-page spreads. The cycle of planting and harvesting pumpkins adds a nice dimension to the story, as does Chicken's ultimate usefulness, despite Pearl and Earl's repeated attempts to "Shoo!" her. With plenty of repetition and a surprisingly engaging story, this book lives up to the publisher's label of "ideal for sharing with emergent readers." A few challenging words are sprinkled throughout, but many pages are predictable and repetitive, while still carrying the story forwards. ![]() Pearl and Earl are trying to grow pumpkins, but Chicken keeps getting in their way - until Chicken proves useful in the garden in this book for emergent readers. ![]() 6/26/2023 0 Comments Tommy tenney esther![]() When she was to appear before the king for her first visit, but she also consulted the servants and only took with her what they advised (Esther 2:15). Her inner beauty drew them to her and she was given additional beauty treatments (Esther 2:9), not provided to the other women. This was because of her disposition - kind and compassionate, meek possibly. She found favor with the king’s servants. Yes, she must have been beautiful, but her inner beauty shined through also. But, I don’t think that she won solely based on her appearance. His plans are beyond our comprehension and are so perfect! Esther was chosen to be queen out of all the eligible young women of the 127 provinces (from India to Ethiopia) that Xerxes controlled. ![]() ![]() This story is so remarkable, not only from the romantic point-of-view of a woman winning the heart of the most powerful king of the time but even more importantly the providence of God and His plan for His people. My personal favorite being ‘One Night with the King’, an adaptation of the Tommy Tenney novel. The story of Esther, the young Jewish woman who became the Queen of Persia, is very familiar to us. ![]() ![]() His life has been dedicated to the training and guidance of the younger Guardsmen, one of his proudest accomplishments. Since joining the Golden Fire Clan, he has been proud to watch all whom he calls brethren become fierce warriors, ever faithful to eradicating those that would destroy all they hold dear. ![]() There Are No Coincidences… Royce O'Reilly is the oldest and most respected member of the MacLendon Force. Now,the Hope she has always clung to may be Kyra’s worst enemy. ![]() Her belief that she will doing anything for that love is stretched to the breaking point when the One she waited for will not accept who she is and can only see what she is. Early on she learned to use all she was given to achieve her goals and twenty-five years ago, turned her back on her birthright hoping that one day Destiny would bring her the love she was promised. An incredibly powerful white witch born of the High Priestess and a human father, she hasn’t let a little thing like lack of height stop her from having the life she knows she deserves. Croix is a strong, feisty, independent woman who is not afraid to speak her mind. ![]() ![]() The books can be read as stand-alone stories, but it is advisable to read them in order to get the most enjoyment from the series. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() In 1993, Mike moved to Dark Horse comics and created Hellboy, a half-demon occult detective who may or may not be the Beast of the Apocalypse. In 1992, he drew the comic book adaptation of the film Bram Stoker's Dracula for Topps Comics. By the late 80s he had begun to develop his signature style (thin lines, clunky shapes and lots of black) and moved onto higher profile commercial projects like Cosmic Odyssey (1988) and Gotham by Gaslight (1989) for DC Comics, and the not-so-commercial Fafhrd and the Grey Mouser (1990) for Marvel. In 1982, hoping to find a way to draw monsters for a living, he moved to New York City and began working for Marvel Comics, first as a (very terrible) inker and then as an artist on comics like Rocket Raccoon, Alpha Flight and The Hulk. His fascination with ghosts and monsters began at an early age (he doesn't remember why) and reading Dracula at age 13 introduced him to Victorian literature and folklore from which he has never recovered. Mike Mignola was born Septemin Berkeley, California and grew up in nearby Oakland. ![]() |
